Oil or fuels are believed to run the modern world and most of the vehicles in the world are being currently powered by petrol or diesel. But the use of these sources leads to pollution and also causes a lot of health hazards. The prices of petrol and diesel are ever increasing and their reserves are on a decline. In future, there will come a time when we will be left with no fuels will be available to power vehicles or the cost of obtaining the fuels will be so enormous that people will not be able to use them. Hence, to power vehicles in future an alternative energy source is required which is bio diesel power.

Biodiesel power vehicle run on biodiesel power resources. These vehicles are being used so as to reduce the dependence on petrol and diesel and preserve the small amount of these fuels that is left in the world. Bio diesel power resources are very cost effective when they are used to power vehicles.

Biodiesel power vehicles are not complex and can be easily manufactured. They are easy to maintain and use. That is why more and more companies are switching to the use of biodiesel power resources to power their vehicles.

The benefits of using biodiesel vehicles are that they use a renewable energy source that will always be available. These vehicles do not cause pollution. Bio diesel as a biodiesel power resource is less expensive than petrol and diesel vehicles. these resources are also environment friendly.

Using geothermal energy for homes

The conventional as well as non conventional sources of energy are used at homes for purposes like cooking, bathing and keeping homes warm. But the use of the traditional sources of energy like coal and wood for heating homes present a few problems. These problems are generally related to environmental pollution and rising costs of the fossil fuels used. We, therefore, need to use an alternative energy source like solar energy, wind energy or geothermal energy for heating homes.

The use of geothermal energy resources for heating homes is becoming more and more popular because it is easy and economical to use and maintain. For heating homes, geothermal energy can be configured in a very easy manner. A loop of pipes is put below the earth’s surface where they get in contact with the high temperatures inside the earth’s crust. The high temperature heats the water that is released through pipes. This heated water in the form of a geothermal energy resource called steam is returned back to the homes through a heat pump. This energy can be used for purposes like the generation electricity, powering a water heater or keeping the homes warm.

The use of geothermal energy resources for keeping homes warm is a viable option because it reduces the dependence on fossil fuels. The installation of a geothermal system that can heat homes is easy. In addition, geothermal energy as a renewable energy source will always be available for use as opposed to fossil fuels that will soon come to an end.

Wind energy

The uneven heating of the earth’s surface causes winds to blow. The earth gets heated in different manner because of the difference in the surface temperatures at various places. The air above the surfaces that get more heated heats up and gets warm. The warm air that is lighter rises up creating a low pressure at the area left vacant. The cooler air from surrounding areas then rushes in to take the place of the warm air and this movement of air is called wind.

Wind possesses kinetic energy which is called wind energy. The sun indirectly provides wind energy and so this is a renewable energy source. Wind energy will be available for as long as the sun shines.

Wind energy is also a clean and green renewable energy source. It neither causes pollution nor does it emit harmful substances that might be hazardous for the health. As a green renewable energy source, wind energy also does not contribute to global warming in any way and prevents the degradation of the environment.

Wind energy companies use wind energy by harnessing it by using wind turbines to produce electricity. This electricity can be used for both domestic and commercial purposes. The development of technology has resulted in wind energy being used as an alternative energy source for the generation of electricity.

Renewable wind energy can produce enough electricity that can meet the power and energy demands of a whole nation. Technologies must be developed that can further promote the use of wind energy as an alternative energy source.

Space based solar power

Advancement in technology and the development of new and innovative ideas has made it possible to use solar renewable energy for purposes other than heating and electricity generation. Renewable solar energy has been used to power rockets and satellites in space. A space based solar power system is a theoretical design for the collection of solar power in space so that can be used on the earth as an alternative power source. For this technology to work effectively a method of collecting solar power in space, a means of transmitting this solar power to earth and a method or device that can receive solar power on earth are required.

The space based solar power technology can use photovoltaic conversion and solar dynamic conversion for converting the renewable solar energy into direct current or electricity. Wireless transmission methods can be used to transmit the solar power from space to the earth. Microwaves or laser radiations are the best methods used for transmission. The solar power on earth is received by using microwave antennae. For the proper reception of solar power as an alternative power source, the antenna size and wavelength must be small.

The space based solar power systems have advantages. One main advantage is that alternative power stores are not needed for the storage of solar power. This is because there is no air in space and so the amount and intensity of renewable solar energy received will be more and it will not be affected by weather conditions as well. These systems have a great potential if used properly.

How to use solar energy

The sun is one of the renewable energy sources that continuously produce a large amount of energy that is called solar energy. The process of atomic fusion takes place inside the sun and releases a lot of energy. The solar energy so produced can be used for different purposes that can be either commercial or domestic.

Renewable solar energy is used in a variety of devices that absorb solar energy and then convert it to a useful form for various purposes. There are several ways in which solar energy can be used. In a solar oven, solar energy is used to cook food. In this oven a concave mirror is used to concentrate the sun’s energy onto the food that has to be cooked. Water can be heated in devices called solar collectors. The solar collectors are mounted on roof tops. It is ensured that they are installed at places where there is sufficient sunlight so that they can absorb solar energy and use it to heat up the water.

Solar batteries are the equipments that use solar energy to produce power. These devices use photocells to produce solar power. In a solar furnace, a number of mirrors are used on sides to form one large concave mirror that can reflect sunlight and use it for heating purposes.

Solar energy can also be used to meet the electricity needs of industries and also for the purpose of heating, lighting and water pumping.

Solar energy is so widely used because it is a renewable alternative energy source that is readily available and reliable.

Geothermal power

A large number of renewable energy sources and conventional energy sources are used that can generate power to meet the energy requirements of the world. The traditional sources of energy like coal and fossil fuels have been used to generate power for a long time. But the use of these sources has increased pollution and created a lot of health hazards for the living beings. Because these sources are non renewable energy sources, they cannot continue generating power for a very long time as their reserves are depleting everyday. So the need of an alternative power source arises to meet the energy requirements.

Geothermal power can be considered as a possible alternative energy source that can generate enough power to meet the energy needs of the entire world for a very long time. Earth power is the useful form of energy obtained from geothermal energy. The energy is generally in the form of electricity. Geothermal power can be harnessed from the earth’s core that is very hot and heats water and turns that is converted it into steam. This steam as a geothermal power product can then be used to run turbines which are connected to generators that convert the steam into geothermal power or electricity.

To harness geothermal power products, a well needs to be drilled into the earth’s surface to reach the geothermal reservoir. Once the geothermal reservoir is trapped, the geothermal power products like hot water or steam can rise to the surface and can be used to produce electricity.

Why is biodiesel energy gaining importance as an alternative source?

Biodiesel is the fuel that is obtained from natural sources. It burns like ordinary diesel but produces a renewable energy source called biodiesel energy. Biodiesel as a fuel is obtained from natural vegetable oils or animal fats by the process of transesterification. It is a process in which the oils and fats are converted to useful esters and the fatty acids are removed.

There are several reasons why biodiesel energy products are gaining importance as an alternative energy source. It is an environment friendly source of energy that can be easily used in big and heavily polluted cities to reduce pollution and preserve the environment. Biodiesel energy is biodegradable as it breaks down at least five times faster than ordinary diesel. As green renewable energy source it is non toxic as it does not emit either carbon monoxide or sulfur dioxide and reduces cancer risks by almost ninety percent. Biodiesel energy products extend the life of vehicle engines and are also less expensive sources of energy. They can be used in diesel vehicles without making any modifications to the diesel engines. Biodiesel energy products have better lubricity and do not cause wear and tear of the engines. They also give more power to the engines as they ignite faster because of high cetane value. Biodiesel energy products are safe to handle because bio diesel is non- flammable and non- explosive. Any spillage of biodiesel energy products into water does not affect the environment adversely.

Why is alternative power good?

Alternative power can be defined as the useful form of energy produced from alternative energy sources like the sun, wind, tides, ocean, water etc. Alternative power sources offer several advantages and benefits that have made their use very popular and rise sharply.

There are many reasons as to why alternative power is considered to be good. One of the main reasons is that that alternative power sources will be the only sources of energy that will be available for use in the future. This is because there are several problems related with the use of conventional sources of energy like coal, petroleum and fossil fuels. The use of fossil fuels and coal pollutes the environment because they release harmful substances into the atmosphere when burnt. The amount of fossil fuels and coal that is available for use is limited and finite and these sources are bound to end one day. We will then be left with only alternative power sources that will efficiently meet our energy demands.

Alternative power sources are obtained from the energy resources that are renewable and can be replenished easily by natural processes.

However, to use alternative power from alternative power sources in the future, alternative power stores have to be created. The cost of making these alternative power stores is very high and so alternative power has not been used to its full potential till now.

Alternative power resources will reduce the dependence on fossil fuels and petroleum and they must be used wisely and conserved in an appropriate manner.

Sources of alternative energy

Alternative energy sources are the ones that can be used as an alternative to the energy sources or fossil fuels used now- a-days to meet the energy demands. There are many alternative energy resources and their uses are many. Alternative energy sources are used because they are easily and freely available.

In earlier times, wood was earlier considered to be an alternative energy source mainly because it was abundantly available in the forests and it was always believed that the forest cover on this earth will never cease to exist. But the increase in the rate of deforestation, wood is no longer used an alternative energy source although it provides an alternative to oil.

Hydropower or hydro electric energy as it is more commonly called is the alternative energy source generated from running water in the form of electricity. Reservoirs need to be built to collect the running water which can be later used for the purpose of electricity generation. But hydropower cannot be considered to be a true source of alternative energy. The reason is that all the reservoirs in which water is stored to generate electricity eventually get filled with sediment and this causes problems in generating electricity and a dam site can be used only once.

Another promising alternative energy resource being developed is the fuel. These are used for producing electricity and do not cause any pollution.

Alternative energy sources are a viable option that can be used in the future for many purposes efficiently and cost effectively.
