Biodiesel Power
Biodiesel has been around since the 1930’s, however over these past years this field has developed and improved several folds. Let’s take a look at some of the latest technology upgrades –
1. An Asian bioenergy firm called Grand Inizio’s has developed a new way of extracting biodiesel power. Their technology will make it possible for the renewable energy industry to use numerous vegetable oils to convert to biofuel.
This company specializes in the construction and design of large biodiesel power plants. The most attractive aspect of their new technology is that, it can easily be applied to any existing biodiesel power plant. The biodiesel produced from converting vegetable oil can be used in cars and boilers.
2. An Indian chemistry professor seems to have solved one of the world’s greatest problems. Prof. Mrs. Alka Umesh Zadgaonkar, Head of Department of Applied Chemistry at the Nagpur based G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering, has managed to convert plastic into fuel. This pollution free process converts non-biodegradable, mostly non-recyclable, plastic into liquid hydrocarbons a great biodiesel power. To verify this process India’s leading oil corporation giant, Indian Oil, assessed and evaluated the entire process.
Prof. Alka and her husband have been offered tie-up offers by Japanese oil giant Izemitsu, the US Applied Science Inc. and Germany's Marlos Thormann Energy Solutions. However, this patriotic couple wants to keep their invention’s benefits with India and want to retain control over their biodiesel power invention.
What is Biodiesel power?
Biodiesel is a fuel which has long alkyl chains. Biodiesel is not based on petroleum. It is made up of vegetable oil, alcohol and fat of animals. Corn is the best and the most preferred vegetable oil used in the production of biodiesel power. It is used in blended forms in vehicles with diesel engines. It is an alternative fuel that is derived from the oils of vegetable and burns cleanly. One should consider that biodiesel fuel is different from the straight vegetable grease.
Biodiesel can be used in any kind of vehicles that are used for driving. These days most of the vehicles running on the road have diesel engines. Biodiesel has the power to increase the fuel efficiency of the vehicles. Biodiesel lowers the lubricating levels and helps in amending the concentration intensity of bio. This biodiesel emits less pollution as compared to the other petroleum products. Biodiesel power is easily available in gas stations. This is cheaper than other fuels.
Most of the industrial vehicles use biodiesel energy to run their vehicles. They benefit the most by the use of biodiesel. It helps in lowering their expenses of the fuel used in their vehicles.
Home made biodiesel power
The process of generating biodiesel power is very simple. One can make biodiesel at the home also. Biodiesel power can be made at home by the process of conversion of vegetable oil which is wasted. One can do this in two ways. Either one can buy a biodiesel processor to homemade biodiesel easily or the manual process of making biodiesel can be used. It is not at all difficult to make biodiesel at home but the process is a bit time consuming.
The macro-economics has been affected positively by the commercial production of biodiesel power. It was estimated in 2006 that with the construction of biodiesel plants there would be an opportunity for the employment of 39,000 people by the year 2015. It was also found out that the production of biodiesel power would decrease United State’s dependency on crude oil. It will help in retaining the economy of US. An opportunity for tax revenue allied with the commercial manufacture of biodiesel is also expected.
Production of biodiesel
Biodiesel is produced through the process of transesterification. In this process biodiesel power is made with the raw oil. It is ethyl or methyl ester based. Ethanol and methanol are also used I the process of production of biodiesel power. The capacity of this process depends on the quantity of raw oil which has to be transesterified. In this process the biodiesel product which is produced is called glycerol. Glycerol contributes 10% of the weight of the raw oil.
The capital cost of a biodiesel plant may depend on several factors. These factors are:
• Capacity of the plant.
• Location of the power plant.
• Design of the plant.
• The cost of the equipments used in the plants.
Biodiesel power is cost effective and is fit for everyone’s pocket in these days of rising inflation. It is also environment friendly which makes it more efficient and effective.
